  1. Assume the side of the square as 2 units. The radius of the smaller arc is sqrt2, the radius of the greater arc is 2. The area of the shaded region is pi(4 – 2)/4. pi/2. Fraction that is shaded – (pi/2)/4 = pi/8.

  2. I think it is pi/8 (Pi over eight)
    Area of the shaded area ÷ Area of the square
    Area of the square =5units×5units = 25units
    Area of the shaded area = (5units^2pi÷4) -((5^2×2units)^0.5÷2pi ÷4) =9.81747
    9.81747÷ 25 = 0.3926988 approximately equals to pi÷8
